The developers of the strategy game The Great War: Western Front published a video in which composer Frank Klepacki talks about how the music for the game was created. The soundtrack will be based on orchestral sound.
Frank’s main idea is to immerse the player in the time period of the game, to make him feel that the action takes place exactly at the beginning of the 20th century. In order to better understand the music of the century, Frank has previously familiarized himself with the works of composers of that time and hopes that his soundtrack will be something that will make the player feel part of what is happening on the screen.
Players will be able to hear different musical instruments, highlighted in different places. Sometimes there will be a piano. Sometimes there will be a choir. Sometimes there will be a woodwind or brass solo. And it all feels special because it won’t happen all the time. In strategic mode, you’ll hear something calmer, with a bit of mystery, and the further music will depend on your choices. If you engage in combat, the music will become more intense throughout the battle.
